Meet Dr. Sukumar
Dr. Pooja Sukumar has known that she wanted to be a doctor from a young age. She has a passion for helping people and empowering patients to be active participants in their care.
Dr. Sukumar grew up in Austin, TX and attended Texas A&M University for her undergraduate studies, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Spanish language. She went on to obtain her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Following dental school, she relocated to the Philadelphia area and practiced general dentistry in a private practice. It was during her time in practice as a dentist that she developed a notable interest in the field of oral surgery. She decided to pursue this passion and completed an internship at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Following her internship, she went on to a rigorous residency program at Temple University Hospital System in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she received specialized training in anesthesia and oral surgery. During her residency, she was responsible for managing facial trauma and dental care at two level 1 trauma hospitals in the region as well as two community hospitals. In her final year of residency, she served as chief resident of the Oral & Maxillofacial surgery service. She then went on to graduate as the only female resident in her program. Dr. Sukumar brings comprehensive experience in full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery with an interest in impacted wisdom teeth, dental implants, facial trauma & reconstruction, pathology, TMJ dysfunction and orthognathic surgery.
Dr. Sukumar recently relocated to Texas and is happy to be back in her home state. In her free time, she enjoys crafting, cooking and traveling the world with her husband. She speaks fluent Spanish, Telugu and Kannada.
